The Boomerang LP

I don't think my memory is playing up, but correct me if I'm wrong...

I'm sure that I remember seeing a 45 by Mark Stein on Phil Spector's label (in the 70's, I guess). It was a Beatle song, and it may have been a version of "The Long & Winding Road".

Is this the right Mark Stein?! Was it just a one-off 45, or was there an album too? Was it produced by P.Spector?

Or was I just drunk or something??....

Phil

Hi Phil,

'm sure that I remember seeing a 45 by Mark Stein on Phil Spector's label (in the 70's, I guess). It was a Beatle song, and it may have been a version of "The Long & Winding Road".

Is this the right Mark Stein?! Was it just a one-off 45, or was there an album too? Was it produced by P.Spector? <>I wouldn't be at all surprised if Mark Stein or Shadow Morton have a few singles floating around the UK - I just don't know.

As far as "The Long & Winding Road" - Stein actually recorded a demo where he sang lead with Deep Purple. The recording is on a 1992 Deep Purple German cd called: "Odd Ditties". For a description of the cd go to:

I've read that Mark Stein was a kiddie TV star here in the US and actually recorded a rare single on the Cameo label in 1959. Unfortunately I can't tell you much more about it. Peace, Bill

I can't imagine Fudge members having released items in the UK and not in the States. Over here Atco didn't even bother to release "Rock & Roll", or even any 45 from it, so they weren't exactly full of commitment. We did get the first CACTUS LP though, although it bombed...

Does anyone else know about this 1970's Mark Stein 45 on Phil Spector's label?

Phil
