Mark Stein Today

Am I missing something on this page? There is a load of info on Appice, Bogert, and Martell, both past and present. But all I see about Mark Stein is past tense-even on "his" web site. Where is he and what is he doing?

That is the problem, we don't really know. We have been in continuous contact with the other three, but have had no contact from Mark Stein. Vince, Carmine, and Tim have all endorsed our site. We had hopes for a 30th year anniversary tour and/or album, but it's becomming apparent that Mark isn't really interested. I still hope I'm wrong.

On Mark's page, the beautiful "unmanned piano" and organ graphics created by Casey signifies that Mark himself is still missing from our site. It is not intentional on our part that he is, and we still wish he would visit us and join us! Did you miss our "Mark Stein Letter Campaign" we just held? We collected letters to Mark from site guests, and Casey sent them to him to encourage him to join us and re-unite with the other three members who do wish to perform together again.

Mark, if you're out there...

Pete

Hi Mauro!

Welcome to the forum! I'm afraid I'll have to concur with Bill. I'm sure you play a wild Hammond, but there is only one Vanilla Fudge, and only one Mark Stein. As long as there is any hope Mark will surface, we must keep hanging on(pun intended) to that hope. I love Mark's Hammond playing so much, I purchased a B3 myself years ago and learned his material. I will be the first to admit, without Mark, or any of the original members, it's not true Fudge but only close. If you were ever lucky enough to see them perform, it would be obvious that, at the risk of sounding cliche', while they could be imitated, they can never be duplicated.

While the hopes for the 30 year anniversary wane, the idea of the reuniting of Vanilla Fudge is still strong among most of them. They have not given up. Within the past few months I've heard it personally from Vince(just last night in fact) and Tim, and Casey has heard it from Carmine recently. Keep your chops sharp, just in case! Got to warn you though, you've got competition!:-)

A couple of months ago, I put out the idea of a Fudge "convention" or maybe a jam where all Fudge freak musicians could get together and jam, compare memorabelia, etc. I didn't get much response, but that idea still stands. Maybe as the web site continues to grow...

I think what Mauro means is that he's hoping we find Mark, not that he wants to replace him!

As I understand it, Mauro saw the Fudge at the Golden Gondola award ceremony in Italy back in 1969. Mark Stein became his hero from that time on!

Casey

You have really understood my words! It was Golden Gondola in Venice, september 1969. All right! Mauro

Oooops! If so, Mauro, please accept my apology. I was a little confused by the 'Is is' typo in your letter. I took it as "Is it necessary to find Mark Stein?" as a question, when you stated you play Hammond after it. If I'm incorrect, please accept my apology!

...but can you blame me? I think all of us Hammond players wished we could fill Mark's shoes! ...or organ throne for that matter! :-)

Pete

I do not know well englisg (american)language (I am italian), so it is very possible you have not understood my words very well! I wanted only say that I began study organ after I had way of see Mark during venice's festival of 1969 (Golden Gondola). And I had bewitched... Do you have understood me? Mauro

Sorry Mauro for the misunderstanding ^5 Mauro

How could we communicate with Mark Stein? Excuse but I have not understood very well. I am not able to understand all the phrases in American. Mauro AURISINA (TRIESTE) - ITALY

Bongiorno Mauro,

Yes! I understand you very well now. Thank you for your patience with me. "Bewitched" is a very good word to use to describe our feelings from Vanilla Fudge music! Thank you!

We would love to hear your first hand description of the Venice Festival if you could tell it to us! It would make a wonderful addition to our web page. It is well known here in the USA that The Fudge won the Golden Gondola award in 1969.

Hi Mauro,

Text by Mauro:

(Is is necessary to find Mark! )

Amen, good sir! We agree completely. Casey's been pretty sick lately but he did manage to get our letters mailed off to Mark Stein and we're hoping he will receive them in the spirit they were sent. Mark is simply irreplacable in the hearts of all the Fudge fans and we sincerely hope to eventually learn more about his current situation. Nobody can sing or play like Mark Stein!!!

Sincerely, Bill

I am perfectly in accord with you!!! Mauro

....and Casey sent them to him to encourage him to join us and re-unite with the other three members who do wish to perform together again.

Uh, correction: Casey is going to send them to him! I've been really bad on the mails lately! Should be sent by the end of this week.

From what I'm gathering, there are a lot of personal and business issues between the guys. Maybe we need a special page to air them?

Casey
