Zembo Mosque December, 1968

Hi Everyone! I have finally come across a 3-speed reel to reel deck. I just hooked it up to my stereo last night and I've got it up and running as they say. I posted an ad on my server's bulletin board and got a response from a guy in Central City, OK. who had the type deck I have been searching for. It cost 40 bucks to ship it to PA via UPS ground but now it's here and running fine. After giving it a test run with a tape the seller sent along I put on the tape I recorded of the Fudge in Harrisburg,PA in Dec. 1968. It has been a long time since I've been able to play this tape. I recorded it on a portable reel to reel that was probably manufactured in '66 or '67. It operated on electric or batteries. The concert tape was recorded at 1 7/8 ips. That's why I had to find a 3speed deck. Two speed decks are 7 1/2 and 3 3/4 ips. Of course this is an audience recording and if I recall, I was seated along the left side of the concert hall so the vocals aren't as loud as I' d like. With older PA systems if you weren't sitting in line with the stage the vocals weren't as easy to hear. You also didn't want to be right up front if you wanted to hear the vocals because they went over your head since most stages were elevated. Here is a list of the songs they played that night in the order they were performed. She's Not There, Shotgun, People Get Ready, You Keep Me Hangin' On, Season of the Witch, and Breaksong. Breaksong is very similar to the performance on "Near The Beginning" whereas on the tape I have from Sept. 1969 it isn't as recognizable until they each do their solo. Another interesting thing I found on the end of the tape and I had forgotten about was a performance I had taped later off of TV. The announcer sounds like David Frost and the band does "Need Love". This was a treat because I totally forgot about ever recording it. I just thought I'd share this with every one. More to come.

Fudge Fan Forever, Stan
